Day 19 – Remembrance Month   ‘Fallen Comrade’   Dr. Samuel Gore

Day 19 - Remembrance Month   'Fallen Comrade'   Dr. Samuel Gore A while back I was on a trip down in the Southern United States. Along the way I had a bit of trouble with my trailer. One of the people I met, when he stopped to help me, was Sam Gore - he is a world renowned artist, known for his sculptures.  I had pulled in to the Clinton Visitor Centre to wait for help. He was there looking over the grounds for his new sculpture - it was being delivered the following day...had to stop back the next day

Day 9 & 10 – Remembrance Month Battle of the Somme – Centenary – 2016 click here

The Battle of the Somme -  The 36th (Ulster) Division was an infantry division of the British Army, part of Lord Kitchener's New Army, formed in September 1914. Originally called the Ulster Division, it was made up of mainly members of the Ulster Volunteer Force, who formed thirteen additional battalions for three existing regiments: the Royal Irish Fusiliers, the Royal Irish Rifles and the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. The division served from October 1915 on Western Front as a formation of the British Army during the Great War. The division's insignia was the Red Hand of Ulster. The Ulster Volunteers were a unionist militia founded in 1912 to block Home Rule for Ireland. In 1913 they organised themselves into the Ulster Volunteer Force to

Remembrance Day – Why is it so important?!

Remembrance Day - Why is it so important?! We need to keep Remembering in the hopes that War ceases to happen throughout the World. We need to teach our Children and Grandchildren the sacrifices that were made for them to enjoy their freedom today.   Short video of why we remember and the importance of the Poppy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28RvhnK6X_I I realize the Remembrance Day is on the 11th but I think the whole month of November should be dedicated to those that have lost their lives to ensure our way of life. THE JANUS STONE, FERMANAGH, NORTHERN IRELAND – (click here for full story)

Went out and about one day on the search for the Janus Stone! What exactly is the Janus Stone? The Janus Stone, which is on Boa Island, County Fermanagh is believed to go back as far as Pagan time in Ireland. As it pre-dates Christianity it is believed to be over 2023 years old. It is one of the most famous carved stones in Northern Ireland and Ireland. Think about it the early Irish Christian period was between 400-800 AD – just let that sink in! As with all things Irish people have to balance archaeological findings and research

Welcome to Roots Northern Ireland!!!

Many people want to know about their family's history, but don't have a clue where to start, or haven't got the time to research it on their own. When I was younger, I was fascinated by how my crazy, diverse family came together, who we were, where we came from and how we got where we are now. I began to dig deeper into my family history and found that not only was it fascinating, I realized how passionate I became about doing the research and the 'detective' work that comes with being a family historian. I love the 'hunt'.
